Welcome

Welcome to the all new Stoke Uncovered. The Potteries are the only area in Britain to be recognised with one industry. The presence of the ceramics industry has played a guiding role in shaping both the economic life and the landscape of the area. Over the years our city has changed dramatically, try to imagine our Mothers and Grandparents having to wait until the weekend industrial shutdown to be able to hang out their washing to dry. The huge display of bottle kilns firing day and night, would reduce any crisp white sheet into a black, filthy, smelly article.

Things have changed now, Stoke-on-Trent is a clean, bright, wonderful City. On my web page you will see what I think of Stoke-on-Trent. Read about how the Pottery industry started and about the children who worked in the industry. The History of the city is so interesting; the city is home to many famous people from Captain Smith of the Titanic to Robbie Williams, pop star. Find out what an Oatcake is, and why we call each other "duck."
